Zhejiang University of Technology — guide for international students

Zhejiang University of Technology (浙江工业大学, ZJUT) describes itself as a comprehensive key university of Zhejiang Province, founded in 1953, whose history can be traced back to the Zhejiang Intermediate School of Technology established in 1910. The International College’s own history page lists the names it has carried on the way: Hangzhou Chemical Engineering School, Zhejiang Secondary Chemical School, Zhejiang Chemical College and Zhejiang Engineering College. It does not appear on the national Double First-Class list; the 2026 admission guides instead describe it as the first university in China’s eastern coastal region to be jointly built by the provincial government and a national ministry, one of the first lead universities of a collaborative innovation centre under the national "2011 Plan", and one of Zhejiang’s first key-construction universities.

For international students the most useful credential is a newer one: the 2026 guides state that ZJUT passed the Quality Accreditation for Higher Education for International Students in China in 2023, with the accreditation valid for six years. The same guides count 65 undergraduate majors across 12 disciplinary categories — philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, art and interdisciplinary studies — with 16 first-level doctoral authorisation points, 5 professional doctoral degree categories and 32 first-level master’s authorisation points.

Headline numbers are not published in one current place, so read them with their dates. The university’s undergraduate-admissions introduction, with data as of 30 September 2020, lists four campuses (Zhaohui, Pingfeng, Moganshan and Zhijiang) covering 3,550 mu, 26 colleges and one department, 19,383 undergraduates, 952 doctoral students, 8,444 full-time master’s students, 1,160 international students and 3,236 staff, of whom 2,363 are full-time teachers. Wikipedia’s infobox, citing 2023 data, gives 20,536 undergraduates, 14,561 postgraduates and 3,389 academic staff. The International College’s About page is older still (three campuses, "over 800" international students). For housing, the International College places degree students on the Pingfeng Campus and language and other non-degree students on the Zhaohui Campus.

ZJUT admits international students to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees and to a one-semester Chinese Language Program, all through its own online system at zjut.at0086.cn. The 2026 guides (English and Chinese, posted in November 2025) set one deadline for all degree levels: 30 May 2026, which may be adjusted for certain programs. All degree programs start in the autumn semester, with registration at the beginning of September 2026 on the date given in your admission letter. Two rules stand out. First, every undergraduate applicant must submit a valid China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) score report, and the 2026 major catalogue names the CSCA subjects for each major. Second, undergraduate admission is age-bounded: applicants must be 18 to 25 years old inclusive — yet the document list also asks applicants who are under 18 on 1 September 2026 for a guardian’s guarantee from an adult living in mainland China, so check with the International College before assuming you are excluded. The graduate guide sets no age limit; only the Chinese Government Scholarship does (under 35 for master’s, under 40 for doctoral). The guides do not ask for a supervisor’s acceptance letter at application; the graduate guide points doctoral applicants to the supervisor information online, and the International College publishes a mentors list for master’s and PhD programs. After the materials are checked — within 15 working days, the guides say — pre-admitted applicants pay the RMB 400 registration fee, download the admission letter and the JW202 form, and apply for an X1 study visa.

These are the dates Zhejiang University of Technology published for the 2026 intake. That cycle has closed. Use them as a guide to when each step falls in the year, and check the official pages for the 2027 dates before you plan around them.

ZJUT’s scholarship pages list five schemes: the Chinese Government Scholarship (a Type A bilateral channel and two Type B university channels), the Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship, the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, the ZJUT Scholarship and the ZJUT Full Scholarship for doctoral students. For the provincial and university awards you do not file a separate form — you answer "yes" to the scholarship question in the online application, the award is decided alongside your admission, and the result arrives with the pre-admission letter. Two practical points recur on every page: you still pay the non-refundable RMB 400 fee to confirm your place, and bachelor’s students pay full tuition before registration, with the award paid into a Chinese bank account afterwards. The International College’s Research page holds only a 2019 speech by a vice-president, so the figures here come from the admission guides and the university’s own introduction. The 2026 guides describe ZJUT as one of the first universities to lead a collaborative innovation centre under the national "2011 Plan" (the Higher Education Innovation Capability Enhancement Program), and count 16 first-level doctoral authorisation points, 5 professional doctoral degree categories and 32 first-level master’s authorisation points. The university’s introduction on its undergraduate-admissions site, with data as of 30 September 2020, lists seven disciplines in the ESI global top 1% — chemistry, engineering, materials science, environmental science, agricultural science, biology and computer science.

The International College (国际学院) handles ZJUT’s international admissions and scholarships, and it also runs its own English-taught undergraduate major in international economics and trade with a China business focus. Its About page states that ZJUT cooperates with more than 50 universities in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Russia and South Korea; that page is undated, so the figure may be out of date. According to the International College news page, ZJUT hosted the 2019 board meeting of the Confucius Institute at Valparaiso University. The most recent official international-student count found is 1,160, in the university’s 2020 introduction.

ZJUT does not publish employment rates, salaries or placement figures for its international graduates, and the International College’s English site has no careers section — its menu runs to admissions, scholarships, news, health care, culture, campus life, alumni and research. Treat any graduate-outcome figure for ZJUT international students you see elsewhere as unsourced. What the program pages do state is the intended destination: the English-taught computer science and technology major, for example, prepares graduates for systems design and development, engineering, teaching and management roles, and requires 147 credits to graduate.

Which campus you live on depends on what you study. The International College’s Accommodation page states that degree ("diploma") students are housed on the Pingfeng Campus and non-degree students on the Zhaohui Campus. Rooms are paid per year on Pingfeng and per month on Zhaohui, and electricity is prepaid — the On Campus Regulation page says students buy electricity before they use it, and that students "can have 6 degrees of electricity and 6 tons of water every month". Dorm rules are strict: no alcohol in the apartment, no loud music or dancing, no lending your key, and check-out in the 15th and 16th weeks of each semester, with belongings removed within three days. Insurance is arranged through the university: the Health Care section names Beijing Pingan Insurance Company as the insurer, covering death, accidental disability, accidental-injury treatment and hospitalisation, with a hotline at 4008105119.
