About Wuhan University
Wuhan University (武汉大学) was founded in 1893 by Zhang Zhidong, a reforming governor of the late Qing dynasty, and is one of the oldest universities in China. Its present form dates from a 2000 merger of four universities, including Hubei Medical University.
A national Double First-Class university (Project 985 and 211), WHU sits on the shore of East Lake at the foot of Luojia Hill in Wuhan, Hubei — a campus famous for its architecture and spring cherry blossoms.
WHU teaches around 56,000 students, including some 3,000 international students, across six major academic divisions and 41 schools, and is consistently ranked among the top universities in China.

Wuhan University admits international students to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, plus non-degree Chinese-language programs.
