About Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine
Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (南京中医药大学), NJUCM for short, was founded in 1954 and is one of the earliest universities of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the People’s Republic of China. It describes itself as the “cradle of higher education in TCM”: in the 1950s it trained many of the first TCM university teachers, compiled early teaching materials and drafted the first syllabus for TCM higher education. After several earlier names — including Jiangsu Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine — it took its present name in 1995.
NJUCM is a national Double First-Class university with one Double First-Class discipline, and is jointly supported by the Ministry of Education, the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has 11 schools plus clinical medical schools (the First, Second, Third and Gulou Clinical Medical Schools), 15 affiliated hospitals and three affiliated pharmaceutical enterprises.
The university’s own figures (updated to September 2025) give 22,154 enrolled students — 14,180 undergraduates, 6,626 master’s students, 900 doctoral students and 433 international students — and 2,109 faculty and staff. It has three campuses: Xianlin in Nanjing’s Qixia District (the main campus, where the International Education College is based), Hanzhongmen in central Nanjing, and Taizhou in northern Jiangsu.
One national Double First-Class discipline; the English site does not name it, but it describes Chinese Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica as its leading core disciplines.

Admission
Admission, programs & tuition
International students apply to NJUCM through its International Education College (国际教育学院) and the online system at apply.njucm.cucas.cn. For the 2026 intake the university offers Chinese-taught bachelor’s degrees in ten majors, master’s and doctoral degrees taught in Chinese or English, a one-year Chinese language program and short acupuncture and clinical courses. All undergraduate majors are taught in Chinese and require HSK 4 (180+) plus the new CSCA entrance test (Chinese and mathematics). Graduate applicants to Chinese-taught programs need HSK 5 (180+); non-native English speakers applying to English-taught programs take a language interview organised by the university. The 2026 undergraduate notice does not set a general age limit (the CSC Silk Road scholarship limits applicants to 25 or under). Applicants who were born to a Chinese-citizen parent, or who emigrated from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan, must also meet the Ministry of Education’s 2020 nationality rules (教外函〔2020〕12号).

- Foreign citizen holding a valid foreign passport (valid for at least 6 months from the date of application).
- Education equivalent to Chinese senior high school or above, with a good academic record and good health.
- New HSK Level 4 with a score of 180 or above.
- Must sit the CSCA (来华留学本科入学学业水平测试) in Chinese and mathematics (arts or science track) and submit the score report; test dates are published at www.csca.cn.

Tuition is charged per academic year and is the same for every major at a given level: RMB 24,000 for bachelor’s, RMB 32,000 for master’s and RMB 40,000 for doctoral study. The RMB 600 application fee applies to degree students (it is waived for applicants from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan). A bed in a double room costs RMB 8,000 per year. The university does not publish the price of the compulsory medical insurance on its admission pages, so ask the office. Confirm current figures with the International Education College before paying.

Scholarships
NJUCM places international students with the Chinese Government Scholarship through two CSC channels — the High-level Graduate Program and the Silk Road Program — and nominates students for the Study in Jiangsu Outstanding Student Scholarship and the Nanjing Municipal Government scholarship. It also has its own merit awards. The Jiangsu, Nanjing and university awards go to students already enrolled, under the university’s 2025 assessment rules: students who have suspended study, repeated a year, failed a course, been disciplined or committed academic misconduct are not eligible.
Chinese Government Scholarship — High-level Graduate Program
Full funding: tuition waiver, free dorm or a housing allowance, a living allowance of RMB 3,000 / month (master’s) or RMB 3,500 / month (doctoral), and comprehensive medical insurance (RMB 800 / year).
Eligibility: Non-Chinese citizens in good health; master’s applicants with a bachelor’s degree and generally aged 35 or under, doctoral applicants with a master’s degree and generally aged 40 or under; HSK 5 for Chinese-taught programs. The 2026 deadline was 12:00 on 10 March 2026.
Chinese Government Scholarship — Silk Road Program
Full funding: tuition, accommodation, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance (international travel not included).
Eligibility: Citizens of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam applying for the five-year Chinese-taught Chinese Medicine bachelor’s degree; high-school graduates aged 25 or under with HSK 4 or above. Applications for 2026 ran from 1 March to 15 May 2026 (NJUCM institution code 10315).
Study in Jiangsu Outstanding Student Scholarship (留学江苏优秀学生奖学金)
RMB 18,000 per student.
Eligibility: Enrolled international students with strong academic results and good conduct, selected under the university’s scholarship rules.
Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students
RMB 10,000 per undergraduate.
Eligibility: Enrolled international students with strong academic results and good conduct, selected under the university’s scholarship rules.
NJUCM Outstanding International Student Scholarship
Undergraduates each year: first prize RMB 3,000, second prize RMB 2,000, third prize RMB 1,000.

Can I take a short acupuncture course?+
Yes. The basic acupuncture course runs March–May (RMB 18,000, apply by 10 January) and the advanced course runs September–November (RMB 23,400, apply by 25 July). Clinical placements of 1–8 weeks cost RMB 2,700–16,200.
