About Nanjing Tech University
Nanjing Tech University (南京工业大学, NJTech — written “NanjingTech” on some of its own pages) traces its history to the Sanjiang Normal School founded in 1902. The present university was formed in 2001 by the merger of Nanjing University of Chemical Technology and the Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering; its history page lists a line of predecessors that includes Liangjiang Normal School (1903), Tongji Medical and Engineering School (1915), National Central University (1928), Nanjing Institute of Technology (1952) and Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology (1958).
It is a Jiangsu provincial university rather than a national Double First-Class institution. The Chinese-language university introduction describes it as a lead university in the first batch of the national “2011 Plan” for higher-education innovation capacity and as a Type A institution in Jiangsu’s high-level university construction “Peak Plan”. There are three campuses, all in Nanjing: Jiangpu in Jiangbei New District (2.17 km², home to the main campus address and the College of Overseas Education), and Dingjiaqiao (0.11 km²) and Hongqiao (0.06 km²) in Gulou District.
The university’s official pages do not agree on its size, so treat the figures as approximate. The Chinese introduction (statistics to June 2026) gives over 40,000 students, nearly 3,300 staff and more than 500 international degree students; the English General Information page gives over 38,000 students, over 3,100 staff and more than 700 international students; and the English Facts and Figures page counts 28,304 undergraduates, 10,550 graduate students and 603 overseas students. The 2026 admission brochure repeats “more than 500 international students”. Teaching is organised in 28–29 colleges and schools (the two official pages differ by one), with 112 master’s programs and 38–39 doctoral programs.

Chemical engineering and materials at the core
Chemistry and materials science are in the ESI top 0.1%, and the university runs the State Key Laboratory of Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering — which is why chemical engineering, materials and bioengineering dominate the international program lists.
Mostly English-taught for international students
Eight of the ten bachelor’s majors in the 2026 brochure are taught in English; every master’s and doctoral direction is listed as either English or English/Chinese.

Nanjing Tech University admits international students to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees and to a one-year Chinese Language Course, all through the College of Overseas Education (海外教育学院). The 2026 admission brochure, published on 15 January 2026, sets one application window for every level: 28 February to 20 June 2026, with registration in early September 2026. All applications go through the university’s online system at njtech.17gz.org. Entry is less test-driven than at many Chinese universities: the brochure’s language scores — TOEFL iBT 80, paper TOEFL 550 or IELTS Academic 6.0 for English-taught programs, HSK Level 4 with 180 points for Chinese-taught ones — are worded as giving applicants “priority”, not as hard cut-offs, and bachelor’s applicants may upload a China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) transcript but can instead upload their full official high-school transcript. The brochure sets a minimum age of “18 years old or above in principle” and publishes no upper age limit for any level. One step catches applicants out: after the pre-admission letter, you must pay the accommodation fee by the stated deadline or lose the place, and that fee is refundable only if your visa is refused.

The 2026 brochure lists eight English-taught majors — International Economy and Trade, Chemical Engineering and Technics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Civil Engineering, Pharmacy, Automation and Traffic Engineering — plus Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, taught in Chinese. A two-year English-taught Environmental Engineering upgrade program is marked “For students of MUST only”, so it is not open to general applicants.

Chinese Language Course (Language Preparatory Course)
A one-year course that, in the brochure’s words, aims “to cultivate international students’ abilities and improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese learning, and enhance their abilities in cross-cultural communication”. It follows the same 28 February – 20 June 2026 application window and RMB 500 / USD 75 application fee. The university does not publish class hours, levels or entry requirements for it on its English pages, so ask the College of Overseas Education. The university-level freshman scholarship described below is set out for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students only.

Tuition is a flat rate per level for the 2026 intake: RMB 16,000 a year for bachelor’s, RMB 22,000 for master’s, RMB 28,000 for doctoral study and RMB 15,000 for the one-year Chinese Language Course. These are unchanged from the university’s 2022 charging-standard page, which also listed a RMB 500 registration fee. The application fee is RMB 500 or USD 75, non-refundable, and the brochure notes that each application is paid separately. Accommodation is RMB 2,000 a year (four-bed room) or RMB 4,000 (two-bed room, doctoral students only) on Jiangpu campus, and RMB 8,000 for a two-bed room on Dingjiaqiao campus; it must be paid after pre-admission and is refunded only if your visa is refused. The university does not publish the medical-insurance premium or residence-permit costs in its brochure, so ask the office before budgeting. Note that the first-year scholarship (RMB 20,000 / 38,000 / 57,000) is larger than tuition at every degree level.

Nanjing Tech’s own scholarship is the headline: the 2026 brochure states that the university “offers scholarship to all newly-enrolled students for the First School Year” — RMB 20,000 for bachelor’s, RMB 38,000 for master’s and RMB 57,000 for doctoral students. It is paid to you rather than waived: the tuition portion goes into your university bank account before November, and the remainder is paid in 10 equal monthly instalments over the first year. From the second year the award depends on an annual evaluation of academic and daily performance, in three classes. Apply for it by ticking the school-level scholarship in the online application system and uploading the supporting material. Three government schemes are also listed in the brochure — the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, the Study in Jiangsu Government Scholarship and the Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship for International Freshman Students. The detailed coverage for those schemes on the College of Overseas Education site was posted in April 2022, so confirm current amounts and deadlines with the office. The university does not list a Chinese Government (CSC) Scholarship channel in its 2026 brochure.
Nanjing Tech University Freshman Scholarship
First school year: RMB 20,000 (bachelor’s), RMB 38,000 (master’s), RMB 57,000 (doctoral). Tuition portion paid to the student’s university account before November; the rest in 10 equal monthly instalments. Second year onward, per the 2026 brochure: bachelor’s first class RMB 20,000 (up to 10% of students), second class RMB 16,000 (up to 30%), third class RMB 8,000 (up to 60%); master’s first class RMB 38,000 (up to 60%), second class RMB 30,000 (up to 40%), third class RMB 22,000; doctoral first class RMB 57,000 (up to 60%), second class RMB 42,000 (up to 40%), third class RMB 28,000.
Eligibility: Newly enrolled foreign-citizen bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students who meet the university’s admission standards. The scholarship page adds that master’s applicants need a recommendation from their prospective supervisor at the university. It is withdrawn if application materials are untrue, the student breaks university rules, or the student is investigated by public security for breaking Chinese law.
Study in Jiangsu Government Scholarship — Outstanding Student Scholarship
One year: RMB 18,000 (bachelor’s), RMB 30,000 (master’s) or RMB 30,000 (doctoral), per the college page posted April 2022.
Eligibility: Full-time international degree students with no criminal record who have paid all fees, with outstanding academic performance and research or social contributions. Apply with the Application Form for Outstanding Student Scholarship through the College of Overseas Education. No deadline is published on the page.
Study in Jiangsu Government Scholarship — Agreement Scholarship
RMB 50,000 / year for bachelor’s (4 years), RMB 70,000 / year for master’s (2–3 years), RMB 90,000 / year for doctoral study (3–4 years), per the college page posted April 2022.
Eligibility: Candidates recommended by partners with a Jiangsu provincial agreement and reviewed by the Jiangsu Education Department. Age limits: bachelor’s under 30, master’s under 35, doctoral under 40; graduate applicants need two professor reference letters. HSK Level 4 for Chinese-taught programs, TOEFL or IELTS for English-taught ones. Cannot be combined with another full scholarship.
Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship for International Freshman Students
RMB 10,000 for one academic year (bachelor’s) or RMB 20,000 (master’s and doctoral), per the college page posted April 2022.
Eligibility: Foreign nationals in good health with the appropriate prior degree, HSK certification of Chinese proficiency and outstanding academic performance. Chinese Government Scholarship holders are excluded.
International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
Per the college page posted April 2022: the one-academic-year Chinese study program covers tuition (20,000), accommodation (7,700) and living allowance (27,500), 56,000 in total over 11 months; the four-year bachelor’s in Teaching Chinese covers tuition (20,000), accommodation (8,400), living allowance (30,000) and medical insurance (800), 59,200 in total. The page does not state whether these totals are per year.
Eligibility: Non-Chinese citizens aged 16–35 (up to 45 for serving teachers; 25 for undergraduates) committed to Chinese-language education. Bachelor’s applicants need HSK 4 with 210 points plus HSKK Intermediate 60; one-year students need HSK 4 with 180 points plus HSKK. Apply via www.chinese.cn; the page gives 15 May as the deadline for September entry.

The College of Overseas Education is on the Jiangpu campus (30 South Puzhu Road) in Nanjing’s Jiangbei New District, north of the Yangtze; Dingjiaqiao is a much smaller campus in Gulou District. The brochure prices dormitories on both, so confirm with the office which campus your program is taught on. Accommodation is booked through the admission process: after the pre-admission letter you pay the dormitory fee by the given deadline, and it is non-refundable except in case of visa refusal. The college runs extracurricular activities including cultural festivals, dragon and lion dance teams and Tai Chi.

Insurance for international students is arranged collectively by the university with Ping An Annuity Insurance (Jiangsu Branch); the guide lists inpatient cover up to RMB 400,000 and outpatient cover up to RMB 20,000 a year at 85% after a RMB 650 deductible. The premium is not published.
